All birth control affects your period. It's usually lighter flow and often the color changes just because of what you ate that month and the amount of protein that ended up in your lining. The only normal period comes from not being on any hormones. When in doubt, consult your physician.

I was on the injection for 5 years and had no periods. I've had the implant in for 2 and I do get spotting every now and then, and sometimes its darker and sometimes can be really light and last for over a week. I think it's just your bodies way of adjusting to the hormones. If you read about the implant it can cause irregular bleeding. I've always just put it down to this and have had no other problems (although I can have the odd mood swing!). I think you should be alright.

If you still feel worried then do a bit of research on the net. Try the NHS site and look at the side effects of the implant. You could also go back to the clinic that put the implant in and get a check up. When I first got mine I had to chart my periods and go in for a 3 months check.

Good luck chick!

I have had this impalnt for just over a year and a half and my periods are all messed up. They last for well over a week and sometimes even longer also they are a lot darker in colour. I have been to see my GP and he said that its normal and may settle down but may just stay the same so its either put up with it or have it removed. i certainly will be keeping mine in its the best form of contreception in my eyes.

Do you mean an IUD?
The intra-uterine device will cause a very unhealthy environment within your uterus.
This in turn causes what you are describing.
This device works by causing your child to spontantaneously abort every month, that you have conceived.
Sometimes a very persistant child will implant itself in the uterus and in the process of growth and development will encircle the device. It will be inside the body tissues of your child causing some very serious health complications.
I thought this device was banned a long time ago.

The implanon does affect periods differently.
You shoucl expect more blood initially for the first 6 months and then it should slow down, even complelty stopping.
Colour is fine dont worry but ig you are concerned, make an appointment with your GP, it can even be done over the telephone.

I had an implant for two years and only had 2 very short periods. they weren't what I would call a normal colour.
