I hope I don’t sound gross, but in a recent visit to Amsterdam, I found that none of the toilets provide water but tissues to clean the anus. Medically is it proven that there are no hygiene issues? I feel very uncomfortable without water and worse still because I was at the airport.

I agree, using toilet paper alone is not the most hygienic way to be clean. After using the toilet paper I like to use Baby wipes, they are refreshing and clean the area well. They are also convenient to carry when traveling. And let me add, there is nothing gross about being meticulous when it comes to caring for yourself! Be proud, Be proud!

I too don't feel clean without water but if you wipe very well I think you can get away with it until you can find some place where you can wash with water. Or you can use the hand towels, run water over it and go back and clean.

I do not think that's hygienic at all. You'll have to wipe until you're inflamed to get that area wiped without water in a way to make sure that it is completely clean and free of any residues or smells.

Few places in America use bidets. We are used to tissues. However you can buy special pads in the drug stores to wipe your anus that have a liquid on them, usually witchhazel.

They don't have sinks in the bathrooms to wash your hands? Couldn't you just wet a piece of toilet paper and clean it that way? Alternatively, buy yourself a travel pack of wet wipes/baby wipes to keep in your bag for when the occasion arises.

Tissue is fine--but I shower 2ce a day. Buy handi-wipes for occations, such as you have described, if you feel uncomfortable with using just plain tissue.

As others have said, moistened wipes are a good way to cleanse yourself. Always keep them with you when you travel.
