The only plausible explanation I can think of, is that they like other people telling them what to do. Sure, you don't have to worry about your neighbor putting a refrigerator on his front porch, but you do have to worry about the constant busy-body dictating. Who wants that?

Besides, I like to see a little creativity in people and their homes-not a row of houses all identitical-boring!

I totally agree with you. That is the price they pay to live in an 'impressive' neighborhood. It is all about status. ICK!

Homeowner's Associations or what they used to call "Subdivision Restrictions" have been around for a long time, probably 50+ years. It preserves the look of the neighborhood from exactly what you said "a refirgerator" on the front porch. With better homes, the property values can be effected by rusting cars, piles of trash, broken down fences, etc. When people value the expense of what they paid for these homes, this is what forms, an association of the neighbors. It will keep the property values up and the dangers out of the neighborhood.

Many people are more into dictating to there neighbors to keep there property values high. But I'm with you i would rather see the creativity and have my own choices.

It probably gives people a false sense of security. It helps to keep people like me out of the neighborhood.

People who are concerned about the effect on property values of someone neglecting their property, or choosing a wild scheme, or throwing loud parties.
Conservative people who like it quiet.
