welcome back Caroline
The easy answer is cable TV, but I'm guessing it isn't available where you live, or you wouldn't be asking this question. Is there anywhere on your property that has clean sky access? Perhaps you could mount a satellite dish someplace further away from your house, and add something to boost and stabilize the signal going from the dish to your house. The only other alternative is to install a tall pole, tall enough to reach higher than your trees, and mount either a dish or antennae on top. Costly, but at least you'll be able to sit down and watch TV every night when you get home from a long day.
Good Luck!

Higher gain antenna, higher antenna, check the condition of your lead in cables and whether a balun should be fitted at the antenna or near the set.
Ensure the antenna is suitable for the bands the TV stations are in. An old VHF antenna is not much good for UHF and vice versa. Check the polarisation of the transmitters. Some TV stations transmit a vertically polarised signal and a horizontal antenna at the receiver will not receive much of that signal even if it's on the right band. Phone the stations if you can't find out any other way. They have an interest in getting you to watch. All this is true whether the signal is analog or digital.
The trees should not block too much of the terrestrial signal if its on UHF and less on VHF. If its microwave you could have trouble.

Let me ask a question is there more than one transmitter in your area look at the roof top aerials around you do they all point in the same direction, it they don't try another transmitter.?
I suppose cable as others have suggested,

We live in a neighborhood with tall trees as well and the only way we can "fix" it is by buying cable or the like, television.

Put your antenna on top of the tallest tree that is the cheapest solution in case the trees are taller than your antenna pole.

An obvious choice would be to mount your aerial on a large pole.

Listen to radio instead, SKY is rubbish. Hundreds of channels of rubbish, eating into our collective pysche to the point where we think Big Brother is important, or Jane Goodey is a heroine....
