Speech requires basically 2 things: one is the equipment to make the proper sounds (vocal chords, highly mobile tongue and lips) which dogs essentially lack, and the brain sophistication for associating abstract concepts to objet, which dogs also lack.

So, to summarize: dogs are simply not smart enough and good enough with their mouth to talk.

G'day Posachole,

Thank you for your question.

Only humans have developed the ability to speak which involves greater brain capacity as well as well developed vocal chords. Chimpanzees and gorillas have some capacity to use language but do not have vocal cords.

Language learning is normal in human childhood. Most human languages use patterns of sound or gesture for symbols which enable communication with others around them. There are thousands of human languages, and these seem to share certain properties, even though many shared properties have exceptions.

No one yet agrees on when language was first used by humans (or their ancestors). Estimates range from about two million (2,000,000) years ago, during the time of Homo habilis, to as recently as forty thousand (40,000) years ago, during the time of Cro-Magnon man. Fossil evidence indicates that the main areas of the brain associated with language (Broca's area and Wernicke's area) may have begun to enlarge as long ago as 1 – 1.5 million years, in Homo erectus. However the most complete fossil erectus (nicknamed Turkana Boy; about 1.5 million years old) appears to have lacked a sufficiently tuned ribcage capable of fine control of speech.

I have attached sources for your reference.

Regards

All creatures 'speak' and and have a language to communicate, it's just a matter of how evolved their means of communication is. You dog communicates with other dogs, even if you can't understand it. As far as why humans have the most evolved form of communication that includes extended speech, it's all about evolution, natural selection, and gene mutation over millions of yhears.

Humans will listen only to another fellow human, and that's the reason why humans have got the voice to air their views to other humans. If we can probably listen to other animals, we can understand their language and communicate. Circus trainers do this to command even wild animals such as lion or tiger.

Thats because humanbeings are the only species on earth which has got six senses where as animals have got 5 senses & it keeps decreasing to the plants which has got only one sense. Human beings are superior to any other living being on the earth. Hence their brains are well developed in such a way that they are able to express their views & their feelings.

When God created man and all the animals, only man was created in God's image. Only man has understanding. Animals have only the understanding of an animal. This is patently true. Only dunderheads believe that intelligence and understanding evolved from stupidity. Throw a bunch of metal on a flight line. How many years do you suppose you have to wait until that pile of junk evolves into an airplane? I can hear the dunderhead say, "Oh but evolution is different." That's why they are dunderheads.

If you are asking why the dogs donot speak the human language I cannot answer. But dogs do "speak" their language and the dog clan seem to be happy understanding each other well.

Possibly , your pet dog is asking his neighbour why his/her master is constantly making noices while talking to the others but speaks well with him/her.

i think all creatures, not just humans express their views, it is the matter expressing these views that we differ. humans have language for these expressions while dogs bark to interact and exchange views with other dogs..

It's just how humans have evolved.
