Because we let brain-dead Morons be in control of LIVE cars and trucks. Your best and perhaps only bet against them (short of not leaving your home - since even pedestrians could be targeted) is Defensive Driving (after all, the family insists on eating! LOL). With all the dangers out there it's a wonder not everyone's dead already. The following are just some of the potential sources of on-the-road hazard that I can think of, off the top of my head:
Driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol
Falling asleep behind the wheels
Taking controlled "Micro-naps" to save on motel money (lol)
Street racing
Running away from the cops in a chase situation and driving (could in and of itself be for a million different reasons - from a bank rubbery situation to drunk driving, to having unregistered weapons, to illicit drugs in the car, you name it)
Driving in a car or truck that is not mechanically sound/fit to be driven
Eating a 7-course meal and driving
Shaving and driving
Putting on makeup and driving
Putting on clothing items and driving
Dialing and talking on a cell phone and driving
Looking up a number in your agenda and driving
Philosophizing while driving
Running into people who are out to destroy their cars just to collect the insurance money and/or sue yours (yes there are nasty and/or that desperate people in this world)
Driving too fast
Driving too slow
Putting a gun to an old lady’s head and forcing her to go faster
Driving with a huge chunk of steel bar sticking a couple of feet or so out the back of the truck
Driving with a loosely secured mattress on top of the car that's partially blocking the view
Towing a disabled car with an old piece of rope and driving
Being all hypnotized by your own wonderful singing voice and driving
Throwing up while driving
Changing lanes when and how you darn please
Trying to pass under a bridge with a maximum clearance shorter than the height of your vehicle
Changing drivers while the car/truck is still in motion
Running into people who are parked where they should not be parked
Driving under nasty road conditions
Backing up in the highway because you passed the exist
Driving while sun-blinded
Driving with windows all fogged up
Trying to see what happens to a motorcycle driver when he/she goes flying
Running into “people” who throw garbage the size of a small luggage out the window
Running into bastards who throw nails out the window just for kicks
Running into morons who use drag-racing fuel in their street cars
Trying to become more aerodynamic by butt kissing the 18-wheeler in front of you
Trying to act cute while driving
Thinking you can drive through a huge puddle of water if you just cross it fast enough
Thinking you’ll save on fuel if you just put the car in neural while going downhill
Not using your brakes enough
Using your brakes too often in a short period of time
Postponing your car maintenance for the next 10 years thinking heck its Japanese made anyways
Admiring the nature zooming by just a tad too long while driving
Having a heart attack or a stroke while driving
Driving off a cliff on purpose
Trying to avoid an animal on the road and instead ramming into a whole bunch of people waiting to catch a bus
Making love/sex and driving
Going through red lights and pretending they were yellow
Daydreaming and driving
Driving while thinking why bother to use signals - after all, I'm the Road King around these woods
Being upset, depressed, anxious and/or distraught and driving
Being on mind and reflex altering medication and driving
Catching a ride with/letting a moron that you know doesn’t know the first thing about driving get behind the wheel because he/she’s the owner of the car
Talking to the passengers and driving
Talking to the dog/cat and driving
Being a downright horrible driver and driving
Being over 90 years old and still insisting on driving
Being in a hurry and sleep-deprived state truck driver and driving
Needing new glasses / being legally blind and driving
Being horribly sick and insisting on driving yourself to the hospital and driving
Simply not giving a darn who you're gonna kill or maim and driving
Trying to beat a closing railroad crossing and driving
Showing your shotgun or treating others to your bullets and driving
Driving on the wrong side of the road while calling the other drivers names for not knowing where the heck they are going
Trying to use your car/truck as an educational instrument of justice against those whom did you wrong on the road and driving
Showing off how fast your car is to your girlfriend and driving
Showing off what a marvelous driver you are and driving
Being distracted by the UFO's in your head and driving

People with death wishes would drive head on into another car!!! People with supposed death wishes are people who are adrenaline junkies. If they truly had a death wish they would be dead already!! :)
