Of the top 20 best selling album artists in the USA as at end July 2006 (see http://www.riaa.com/ gp/bestsellers/ topartists.asp) only 4 are American bands and none of the top 4 best selling artists are American bands. In 5th place on the overall list of artists are the top placed US band - Eagles with 91m unit sales. In 12th place overall are Aerosmith with 65.5m units. In 18th place come Metallica with 57m and in 19th are Van Halen with 56.5 m unit sales.
