I am from Aberdeen shire. I miss it so much there and can't wait to travel back. There is so much to do and see--it just depends on if you like outdoor things, indoor, religious, the party scene, and the list goes on. I recommend taking some time on holiday to visit the sea. In Scotland, it talks to you.
Tell you more when noone's listenin' shhhh!

Scotland is a wonderful country but it is best visited in the summer when you have a better chance of seeing the sun. The summer can be very variable though having said that this years was pretty good. You should visit the capital city Edinburgh and there are many tours around there, you can get open bus tours and night time ghost tours. Also a trip to the castle is a must. If you get a car then there are loads of nice places to see in the countryside but that would have to be done all by yourself. You could go and visit Balmoral castle which is the Royal families official residence in Scotland. There are loads of cool hill walks and forrest walks all over the country and lots of historic monuments to see. Try looking up the National Trust of Scotland on google for some ideas.

There are so many things to see and do in Scotland you will want to visit more than once.
Some answers on here are rather strange especially the ones from people who live in Scotland (as do I). I'll try my best to help you out.
Your first stop should probably be to visit at least one of the cities. I reccomend Edinburgh, the capital city, as it is a World Heritage Site with plenty of historic sites to see such as Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Palace the infamous Royal Mile and the controversial Scottish Parliment building. There is also good shopping and fantastic restaurants (not terrible food as one person has said, is rubbish they probably only eat in fish and chip shops). You can also take a tour of the city (or a ghost tour). Edinburgh is apparently one of the most haunted cities in Europe.
Glasgow may also be a stop for you. It is worth seeing if you have the time. Best for visiting museums and good shopping.
Stirling is also fab to visit as it's right inbetween Glasgow and Edinburgh, you can check out Stirling castle and the Wallace monument. The battle of Banockburn site is nearby too.
If you are a fan of Golf then it is a must to visit St Andrews the home of golf however Scotland is famous for it's golf courses, there are many all over.
If you can, hire a car and drive through the highlands. The scenery is simply breathtaking. There are plenty of activities going on in the highlands too.
I would check out this website for further information, it's the Scottish tourist boards web site.

P.S I will give you a £100 if you can actually find someone that says "Och Aye the Noo" in a proper sentence.

Scotland is a lovely place to visit - Some people refer to it as "God's country" because of it's natural beauty and warmth of it's people. So many film and pop stars and an array of other famous people love visiting this country or have second homes here, so that should say something about it to.
Scotland has a lot of culture and heritage to discover and has some of the finest cities in the world - and some of the most beautiful and majestic land and sea scape's it has are are well worth a visit to.
Scotland has something for everyone but best to visit over the spring and summer months when the weather is warmer.
Hope you enjoy your visit when it comes and you take back some wonderful memories of a lovely place and its people. Enjoy!

Okay head up north ie. Fort William, Inverness etc for the "holiday" scotland - all big hills and sheep. However if you want a bit of fun stick to Glasgow and Edinburgh - lots of bars and clubs and a bit of culture if you feel the need.
Be warned though - its very grey a lot of the time and I hope you like unhealthy fattening food cause we've got loads of it.

hey, im from glasgow right in the city center but i have travelled all over scotland and can honestly say (maybe biased as i live here) but its the most beautiful country in the world!!! the people are the most accommodating friendly people you will ever meet. for example when we were 17 me and 3 of my friends went walking around glasgow and jst lived in B+B's for a fortnight. One nigh we couldn't find a B+B so we chapped on someones door and said we're looking for a place to sleep tonight and she said "yeez urnae junkies or murderers ur ye?" pml she made the 4 of us a massive fry up in the morning!!!
P.s i'm not suggesting you go around peoples doors asking to stay with them the whole time of your visit lol jst an example of how friendly scots are!! luv lauren xoxoxox

Im from Fraserburgh, 42 miles north of Aberdeen. If you want to visit Soctland go to the area of Inverness, its a nice city, and the scenery up that way is nothing short of spectacular, from INverness to Aviemore and the cairngorms, to Fort William.
I hope you enjoy your holiday.

Scotland is a beautiful place. You can't visit without seeing Edinburgh - which was recently voted Favourite UK City for the 7th year running. http://www.edinburgh.org/ :-)
