Is it , "Begin, Began, Had began" or "Begin, Began, Had begun"
I know, I should have paid more attention in Language Arts, but I was young then.

infinitive: begin
past simple: began
past participle: begun

Past participles are used with the "perfect" tenses (present perfect simple, and past present perfect), which - as you noted - take "have" as an auxiliary.
