The first paragraph should be a very loose outline of what is coming in the rest of the essay, and should be fairly brief. Funnily enough it is actually easier to to the introduction last, that way you know exactly what to put. I find it easier also to jot down some notes before hand and roughly assemble your paragraphs. The words should then flow a little easier. Good luck!

I usually
set the scene;
The icy wind was whistling down the chimney .causing the fire to smoke and glow alternately.
Benson , the cat is blissfuly ,asleep in the hearth, gleaning the warmth from the flickering flames
introduce a character ;
Susana was restlessly rocking in her chair ,. Attempting to read her novel ,
she is getting more distracted, as the minutes tick by , The clock on the mantle piece, strikes eleven..
expand the scene ;
Was that a car door ?
Introduce more characters , ;
or flash back ,on how Susana came to be there ,and who might she be waiting for
Try to imagine yourself ,in the scene makes it easier to describe
I find a basic structure like this ,helps me ( pad it out in which ever way you feel fits ).
Good luck

i always use this one effective tool to write introductions:
Do the introduction last,
Write the entire essay first
The first line of the introduction should be an elaboration of the title.
The remainder of the introduction should be a summary of each of the paragraphs in the essay. It should read like a plan of what is to come. Good Luck!!

You need to state what it is you are talking about and explain why it is an interesting topic, by putting into context.
For example if you are writing about a character in a book then you need to start who the character is and why they are important. If you are writing about the latest development in genetic research then you want to explain the background of why genetic research is important and what that particular development adds to the information out there.
You then go on to say what points you will cover in your essay. You then write it and end it by coming to your own conclusion.

Brainstorming; gather all of your ideas and write them down.
Organising; relate each idea to the other in a web starting with the first and main idea.
Planning; write a short plan for each paragraph you intend to write for your essay. Your plans must be short, informative and straight-to-the-point.
These 3 steps will prepare you to write any essay you want.

Hi, written enough essays in my time at col.
here are some of my fav ways...
"In this essay i will be looking at the topic of/discussing"
"In this essay i aim to answer the question/look into..."
If it is an english essay, try taking a key quote in the passage, almost as a title, which could sum up the whole essay. Eg looking at love in Romeo and Juliet...
"Romeo, Romeo, where for art thou Romeo."
"The above quotation sums up the whole atmosphere of..."
Hope it helps!!!

Essay questions are still questions that need an answer, simply start by saying how you intend to answer the question in front of you and how you re going to prove it. Then go prove it in the most detailed way you can!

The best way to start is with an air of infallibility. Write as though you know absolutely what you are writing about. Even if you don't!
