be related to selling organic products over the Internet. If I want to my website to be ranked in the first page of Google or Yahoo search engine, would it be enough if I only swap links with other popular websites? Is there any other more or equally important factors that I must consider in optimizing my website "organic.org"?

Technically, your TLD shouldn't effect your ranking too much. .edu and .gov do get special attention from Google, but other than that, you should be able to get up there with the newer, lesser know TLDs.
However, if you want your customers to remember your URL and return as much as possible, it's probably better to have a .com or at least a .org/.net.

Link swapping is not terribly useful now-a-days. One way links from higher ranking, closely RELATED sites is always good, but very difficult to achieve.
Honestly, there's a great deal of knowledge and technique behind raising your site up the ranks.
I'll start to get some links on the subject together for you.

The best way to beat the whole process, however, is to pick a single search engine and concentrate a marketing campaign via their PPC advertising program.
Google and Adwords is one example.

Feel free to contact me if you need specific advice and if I can't personally help you, I can refer you to someone who can.
