I watch Passions and occasionally look at Days of Our Lives and Bold and the Beautiful and have wondered this.
If soap operas are supposed to be life-like, then it should show characters using the bathroom.

Maybe because going to the bathroom is so everydayish, that the script writers probably think that it's not needed.
But I agree a character could say they need to go to the toilet to freshen up.

I think a better question would be "when does Jack bauer use the bathroom".
At least with Soap Operas sometimes you'll have a bit of a time lapse when you can "assume" that characters took a tinkle break.
The TV show 24 is supposed to be filmed in real time - each hour taking up an hour in the life of Jack Bauer. Yet we never see him eat, we never see him go to pee (or otherwise relieve himself), we never see him shower or even "freshen up", and we certainly don't see him sleep; although having an agent not sleep for 24 hours is more believeable than having one "hold it" for 24 hours....

That's funny! I've watched a couple of episodes of "The Young and the restless" (I think that's the name, but I'm not sure) and there are these times when a conversation takes place and at the end of it the camera stops for a couple of seconds on one character. I think that's how they go to the bathroom in that soap opera, in those couple of minutes, everyone, except the one in close up, goes to the bathroom... :) Or maybe they are super-humans, they don't have to go to the bathroom, ore they are so rich that they have this invention on them that permits them to pee without going to the bathroom

Soap operas aren't meant to be life-like. Bathrooms don't make for a good storyline....
