Many are from younger generation computer geeks who don't study books to learn about various subjects which make this earth. Some want to learn so they ask some serious questions. Many utilise it as a pass time site and give what ever random answer comes to their mind. Some have some problems which cannot be discussed in public. On the whole it is different generations in different stages of growth that makes the quality of answers low.

Opinions, not using their minds, leaving a short message to get points. Trying to get to answer as many questions as they can possibably can. Although some of the questions are rather poor and with a little effort could be answered by them selves by screaching the web. Every one is entitled to an opinion. Most also judge others by their own standards too. Although every one has had a different background and from that they draw open those experiences and create their own belief system, and fail to see that the other people have different experiences and have a different way of thinking. So when they answer a question they are not thinking about what that person is trying to get an answer for. They see it from their point of view, or they are unable to percieve the queston in such a manner that it makes sense to them. Hence a poor answer. There also seems to be people who get upset that their answer isn't choosen as the best answer. To me it isnt about the points its trying to help some one get an answer or at the least think about it from another view point.
Mind you some of the questions are truly mind boggling as you dont have a reference point to understand the question. So on the other side of the coin poorly asked question can get poor answers. Swings both ways dont you think?

CM Kornbluth hypothesized that, because technology removes the Darwinian evolutionary pressures that drive advancement from the human species, humanity is slowly devolving, at least in the main.
Stupid people have just as much chance of living to reproductive age as intelligent people. Stupid people "tend" to have far more offspring than intelligent people. Therefore, over time, stupid people will constitute an increasing majority of the population.
Put another way (so the rest of the readers can "get it"), when stupid don't kill ya, it's actually an advantage.
Still too complicated?
How about "DOLTS RULE"!
Yahoo!Answers is proof that the Internet has become so accessible that even a chimp can use it. And yes, chimps have opinions, which are worth exactly as much as you might imagine.
Vox populi, vox puerilis.

For the same reason the quality of questions is so low. Yours is a point in fact.
'Why is the general quality of ANSWER on this site so low' should be plural to be good grammar, 'answers'.

Most people are incredibly stupid and they are too stupid to know this fact. In a way, stupidity is an active qualitiy. If you ask a smart person a difficult question, he knows that there are a lot of things he does not know, and therefore he hesitates to answer. But stupid people are too stupid for that. They tend do give answers in the following style (now that is only metaphorical): What is two plus two? I know exactly, it is five. Don´t try to say something else, you stupid guy!

Well that's a matter for high and intense debate - who are you to judge the 'quality' of something?
You can only make assessment according to your own beliefs and standards, that does not necessarily implicate the rest of us as higher or lesser mortals than yourself - it's just your opinion.
I for one answered your question more because I am annoyed at your arrogance rather than because I feel it was a valid question.
