The saying is an old one and in the present day scenario it does not hold much meaning.
In the olden days when a man enters his home after a days back breaking hard work he certainly appreciates good and tasty food to be served on his dining table.
In these days of DINK ( double in come no kids ) couples they enter their home in a fully stressed out condition and what the man ( may be woman also for that matter) is looking out will be for some thing to de stress and food is certainly not in that list .
As the days change saying also changes.
As for as woman's heart matters may be it is just that few nice words spoken at right time is the route to her heart.
And she likes it even better when it is repeated day in day out with couple of gifts some where in between.

No, As Diamonds are not every woman's friend similarly Stomach is not a way to every man's heart. The only way to impress your opposite sex is by this saying of my own ;-) "Know your partner the same way as you know yourself". By this you would know what your partner needs and how you should reciprocate for the same.
