i dislike it when people answer medical questions with no prior knowledge. if you ever pay attention when your blood is drawn, there are many different color tubes. each color tube has a special additive(be it liquid or powder) that has to mix with the blood to be able to do that particular test. say if the doctor orders a complete blood count, that has to be done with a lavender top tube. say you wanted an hiv test done, that has to be done with a red top tube. do you get what i'm saying?

Maybe because to test everyone for everything would take years the NHS wouldnt be able to cope, also peoples bodies change all the time so one week you could be fine and the next there could be something wrong with you, I hate blood tests anyway.

when blood is taken, it is placed in various tubes. these tube contain a variety of chemicals which affect the blood in different ways, and are specific for the required test. for example a plain clotted blood tube can be used some test in biochemistry and test in serology, where as purple colour top tube contains edta and stops the blood from clotting can be use haematology.

Because if they need to send your blood to other clinics or hospitals for more information.... if it comes to that... then they send a non-opened sample so that nothing in the other clinic or hospital (like if there was the flu in the place of study) like decease can get into the sample

Because each test costs money.
And because each uses a finite amount of blood, and to have enough taken for all possible tests to be done would leave you half-empty!

I thought it was because different people test for different things and also because they may need to use one phial of blood per test to get a clear reading?
