I personally did not have circlage done during my pregnancies- but my mother did, twice. Once for my sister, now in her mid 30's and for my brother, now 27. She was diagnosed with an "incompetant cervix" after five miscarriages. Her cervix would dialate when she reached around 32 weeks, and she would lose the baby. I was almost 6 before she finally had my sister. Until then she had become convinced I would be an only child and had almost given up hope of having more children. It was a radical new procedure then, and she was so happy and grateful for it being done. My brother was a late life surprise for both my parents, and the procedure was done when she was around 28 weeks I think, because he was a bit bigger than us girls had been. With my sister they removed the stitches when she went into labor. With my brother, they were removed a week prior to due date, and she spent the days at rest until her labor started.
I used to work in the hospital as a paramedic, and I worked with a young lady who also had the procedure done. She had three late miscarriages before they diagnosed the problem with her cervix. When she became pregnant the fourth time, she spent the first trimester on close watch. They did the procedure when she reached 24 weeks I believe, and she went on to have a beautiful 8 pound boy. Naturally, I might add. The doctors told her that she would need to have it done with each pregnancy before the cervix began to dialate more than 2cm, but that she could have as many children as she would like. So as frightening as it is, I can promise you it really is a blessing. Such a simple procedure really does make a big difference. I have two siblings today, all because of a few inches of thread. Sounds like you are going to add to the number of blessings of thread too. Good luck, and say a thanks for thread.
