I don't think fashion is only about a personal statement. It's also a visual sense of expression -- an art. For example, do you think Lady Gaga dresses as she does because she's showing people who she is? Perhaps that's part of me but she is also making a statement through visual expression -- like art.
The models on the runway that walk in a designer's new collection -- they are not showcasing their own personality, of course. They are showcasing an essence of visual expression.
