I couldn't agree more. I was so happy when Jack Straw had the courage to say what he did recently, and even more happy that he didn't back down. He is an amazing man and I think he would make a wonderful Prime Minister. I think it's a disgrace that the Government has pandered to a minority group in this way, especially since it refuses to denounce the many atrocities carried out by terrorists. I think that the citizens of this country are finally beginning to wake up and I hope it is not too late.
With regard to not being able to criticise them: I was particularly annoyed at their reaction to the Pope's speech. They demonstrated outside Westminster Cathedral in London and were carrying banners for which they should have been arrested. Scotland Yard announced that it was investigating the incident but, surprise surprise, later decided not to proceed. Imagine if Catholics, or anyone else, had carried anti-Allah banners and protested loudly at a mosque!

Yes you have a point. I think the problem generally is that the goverment is becoming scared. As a result, they are giving more rights for Muslims to express their way of life. As a result, the Muslim communities are become more of a majority in areas, and this looks likely to spread Nationally. So soon, they wont be a minority and everyone else will. I don't have anything against Muslims, nor anyone in any religion for that matter, but what this Country is failing to do, is preserve its herritage and culture that all those old folk worked so hard to do. We have lost most of it in the space of a couple of decades and its only getting worse. the goverment need a kick up the back side now to act on things NOW rather than have the soft attitude, afraid to offend anyone.

While I do agree with most of what you say I must admit I do support New Labour as, unfortunately, there is no viable alternative. Personally I preferred Old Labour but they were unelectable.
I tend to agree with the Australian Prime Minister's recent comments which basically comes across as "If you want to come here be one of us, if you don't want to be one of us don't come here".
It's a perfectly simple choice. I wouldn't choose to emigrate to an Arab country because there are certain restrictions that would be placed on me which would not sit easy. People coming into this country, especially from countries where individual freedom of thought was restricted, should realise and appreciate that if they have come here for a better life for themselves and their families, what can be gained from trying to make this country into the one they willingly left.

You have a point but there is more to it as well. Some local white british people must also change their attitudes. My wife is Indian and not a muslim and yet has been called a Paki by locals in the town where we live. My wife wears western oufits speaks fluent english has Masters degree in English Literature, goes to the pub with her white friends yet at times she is taunted by certain idiots.
This is the kind of ignorance that the governmet must also tackle. And the local populations must also educate themselves about other communities and not think that every brown person is a muslim out to harm Britain. Yes, I totally agree with you that everyone should be treated equally.

I am afraid it's all down to fear, after New York, Bali, London. The world fear the fundamentalists of the Muslim faith.
So the at first we attack the unknown and that hasn't worked in fact, possibly helped to grow a few more home grown fundamentalists, so the other option is to give them what they want, in the hope that if it looks like your sideing with them they wont attack the Uk again.
This is the same tactics that was used to get the IRA to Stop the uk Main land bombings, it worked, but at what cost to the unionist people of Nothern Ireland.

This says it all really!!
The Church of England has privately blamed the Government for favouring Islam over other religions, it was revealed today.
A document prepared by the Archbishop of Canterbury's adviser on other faiths accused ministers of showing political preference to Muslims and using taxpayers' money to promote Islam.
I guess we are just not making ourselves heard strongly enough!! Sure as eggs is eggs,if we don't shout, and shout loud,a Muslim state looms!!! Its like an insidious cancer spreading throughout our country!!!

i think the question you should be asking yourself is do they? i'm presuming that you are a caucasion of british origin? as i am. The thing is in the paper last week i was reading an article about how jack straw wants muslim women to stop waering burkas in his constituancy, now this isn't just something trivial, this is a member of parliment belittleing a religious belief. you might say they recieve prefferential tratment in our country, as people of british decent which i hope you realise is a mongral race in its self, i know that my family name (Baldwin) is infact an ancient normandaic name for instance and before that in the neolithic times neandertholic men originated from germany. i say that due to the actions of certain religious extremest, who believe it is gods will to create peace through some imense religious warfare. that the everyday muslim gets eyed sideways constantly especially when holding a backpack!
i was lived in london when 7/7 happened and actually worked opposite liverpool street station and i can tell you this, you would never see such an attitude of defiance towards these aformentioned extremests especialy by the muslims who came to the pub i worked in, you will also never witness a coming together of so many people of different backgrounds colours creeds and religions.
the thing is you almost seem jealous of the position muslims have within our community, and that is the seed planted by the media to stir up racial hatred to make it easier to recruit for the armed forces when we get dragged into another war by damien w bush

Which Moslems are we talking about here? People have the oddest habit of bunching them all up together.
Politicians pay lip service, I think you haven't heared anything thats music to your ears in a while. Not to worry, that may just be around the corner.
But I think its daft to listen to politicians in the first place. Its time you tuned in to something else.

I don't understand why 'bobkerr' thinks that he has to support 'New Labour' because he doesn't think that there is a viable alternative. Let me say this to him, " any party, but any party, is preferable to this lot. It is the most dangerous, revolutionary, totalitarian Government that this country has ever had. They have left us with a legacy of social engineering that we will never recover from, not to mention an economy powered by borrowed money from inflated house prices and huge debts and obligations deferred for future governments to deal with. I was staggered that people voted for them last time, but anyone who votes for them next time clearly isn't a patriot and receives my deepest contempt.

They have let so many in they feel they have to justify it by giving all they can to them. If I wanted to build a church would I get planning??? A Mosque no problem as big as you like. It seems to me that either someone has promised Blair something or someone has got inside his head. Fair play to all in the country. I fear that if Blair like Jack Straw will not take a stand against the radical Muslims the others in this country will.
