I'd say who mine was, but I might be revealing my age. I'll save it for later.

I like most of the answers so far. I'm going to toss out a couple of my favorites.

Gracie Allen, who paired with her husband George Burns, was one of the funniest ladies ever on stage. She probably is near the top of my list, and much of her work was done long before I was born.

Jonathon Winters is probably my favorite and is a naturally funny comedian.

Among younger comedians I like Robin Williams and Jim Carrey, but there are many good young comedians and many of them can actually be funny without being gross.

I don't want my choices to influence anyone. You guys are on a roll and I'm anxious to see what else you come up with.

Oh, yeah. Before my time Laurel and Hardy were hilarious. Still love their old movies.

bill hicks, because he managed to be funny, outrageous, offensive, moody, angry, could make you think, had a different point of view, and could create jokes off the top of his head. he was a genius.

chris rock is one of the best. his act is very scripted, but he's got good jokes and speaks his mind.

dave chappelle obviously is one of the best.

oh and yes of course sacha baron cohen (ali g/borat), he has a very quick mind, definitely a comic genius! :)

There are a lot of greats to whom respect is due. From the Charlie Chaplins down to the controversially hilarous 'Borat'. But if you are talking consistency, I'd have say Sacha Baron Cohen just nicks it. The ability to create two characters that, not only have you in stiches, but also leaves you wondering how little 'notable intellectuals' know, makes 'Ali G/ Borat' arguably the number 1 comedian of all time.

I'd have to say Eddie Murphy, ever since I saw Delirious and Raw, which had me rolling, anytime I need a laugh I rent those. Besides that, he is a hilarious actor also, he has many different sides.

Rodney Dangerfield. He was absolutely funny. I love anyone who can make fun of themselves and have fun with it. He is one of those people you would want to invite to a party. I just love his expressions and how he is so brutaly honest about himself. George Carlin is also very funny and quite informative. Wanda Sykes is my new favorite now. That woman is just so funny.

I've got to say Peter Kay, he's so down to earth, talks about things you can relate to and has a great way of telling his stories.
