Yes you can give mashed potatoes to your 8 mth old. What's even better is to offer mashed green veggies as they have lots of vitamins in them. Steaming veggies keeps more of the vit.
I've heard of parents giving their babies gravy, but they love plain foods just fine without adding stuff like that on it! Oh yeah, no added salt to the potatoes, but you can add a little thyme, oregano, or similar spice to it if you'd like.
Just read the other answers - waiting to give a baby mashed potatoes until a Yr old? I'm an overprotective mother, so when I think 'WOW' it's saying something. Since my girl isnt a big eater the pediatrician said to mix potatoes in with her veggies to add some extra calories, this is perfectly fine for their little bodies and potatoes are very healthy for you (not fried or with butter like most children eat them is all!). And almost all baby recipes for 6mths+ will have a pinch of thyme or oregano as an ingredient. We make all our own purées for our 11mth old and we've been adding spices since she was 7 or 8 mths old (she started solids at 6mths) w/o any problems. Of course all babies are different though.

As a mother of 4 I feel I am experienced enough in this field and i have taken new parenting classes w/ each child and my youngest is one year of age. The answer is yes, you can feed your child mashed/strained foods from the age of 6 mo. Always start w/ vegetable such as green beans, peas, potatoes, etc., though you need to introduce new foods one at a time and observe the child for any reactions they may have (food allergies).

yes, of course you can. But if you think milk is better then make it to a snack. you can even give smashed fruit and mix fine chopped vegetables with the potato.
And never add salt or seasoning in the foods the baby taste buds can't taste the flavour of the foods. I have 2 kids and I don't give sweets or put any seasoning until they are 1yrs old. Kids tense to be more hi-pro- active after taking sweets things and dislike milk and choosy on foods. My nephew that was taken by grandma had given him sweets and put seasonings in his foods at 6 mth of his age. Now he is age of 6yrs and was so skinny and also is a hi-pro-active child that need to go for counselling.

i'd propose attempting one million diverse element a week so which you would be able to look ahead to allergies yet you are able to attempt any veggie/fruit (different than strawberries - i think in infants under one million there would properly be a important allergic reaction so be careful with that). yet in any different case supply all of them kinds of culmination/greens, in basic terms be sure they are mashed properly and you will haven't any problems. the little one would be wonderful! you're doing a competent pastime, do not complication - you sound like me as quickly as I had my 1st little one. =0)

Sure, just make sure that you do not use salt or milk when mashing/making them. Use either formula or breast milk to make them nice and soft. My daughter personally hated them till she was much older and had the good stuff that we eat.

Offcourse you can.You can feed anything like green vegitables, rice, potatoes, etc. Till now he might have 2-3 teeth. So, you can put him/her soft things to cut with his/her teeth. From 13th month, you can start somewhat hard things.

Yes, but please don't let the potatoes have to much seasoning. Their little tummies are still quite sensitive. You could cause them to have a belly ache or possibly diahrea. Table food is good, just as long as we remember they are still babies, and they could get choked very easily. So please be careful!!!!
