if the container is airtight and strong removing all gases from it would make it lighter the better the vacuum the lightr it would be...also hyrdrogen added displacing the regular air would also make it lighter.

Is this a trick question, you cannot make the actual container lighter dut you can fill it with heluim to counter the gravity.

To make it lighter take it to the moon!

You can't make it lighter.
You can however counteract the force of gravity by using something that exerts a buoyant force, like helium.

Put some petrol and burn it. Then it will weight less, when it is completely charred.

How else can you reduce the dead weight of a container??

If in term of mass, then you cannot reduce it as it is fixed (unless you take the mass out)

If in term of weight, then it is presumably is a Force acting downwards. Just using the buoyancy (Thanks to Archimedes.... sorry if i spell his name incorrectly) to counter balance it. Eg, put in helium gas inside may solve your problem as other suggest.

if it was airtight which you did not specify you could put helium in it to make it lighter
