My point of this is this. Major League Baseball has created baseball acadamys in Latin America and the Pacific Rim. In a place where soccor is king, baseball has flourished. Now, what if baseball would open baseball schools in Europe and gave kids a chance to play the great game and see how much fun the game could be. Would baseball make some noise?

LL baseball was great fun, until I got a little older and our coach wanted us to play in every tourny he could find and practice all the time. Heck, we were just kids!! After that, I quit.

I had a very different experience with little league. I was in little league when I was eight years old, back in 1964. We would assemble on the field, and the coach would make us take four or five laps of the diamond, which I absolutely hated, seeing as how, in my eight year old mind, had little to do with playing baseball, and everything to do with making it very clear who was in charge.

I was put in right field, and got little, if any play action. By and large I just stood there. I was also near the bottom of the batting rotation, so I never even once got up to bat in a game, and only once during practice. My experience that summer left such a bad taste in my mouth regarding team sports that I have yet to play on a team voluntarily. I participate in individual sports, and will watch an occasional baseball game, but if I am to be a cog in someone else's contraption, forget it.
