I never did get the PT memorised -- and when my instructors would pester me about it, I would refer them to Albert Einsteins quote to the effect that he never bothered to memorise those facts which he could look up in a book.

Of course, that may explain why I went into Engineering instead of Chemistry as a profession...

The only one I can remember now is "BrINClHOF" (pronounced "Brinkle-Hoff" which is Bromine, Iodine, Nitrogen, Chlorine, Hydrogen, Oxygen, and Flourine -- the naturally diatomic elements. There was another for the noble gasses, itching around in the back of my mind but it refuses to be recalled at the moment.

Anyway, good luck!

Oh yeah, and the song the first aswerer is referring to is probably "The Elements" by Tom Lehrer -- see the link below. This was from his album "An Evening Wasted with Tom Lehrer" (1959). Monty Python did not do a song about the elements that I can recall, and I'm quite the Pythonite.

I do not think you need to learn it by heart.

You must learn to use it, it is very important that you understand the usefulness of the chart. It can be a handy tool.

If require by your teacher then, take one group at a time and master it. If it is a large group, you may need to break it up.

If you learn 5 chemicals per day , it will take you about 20 days to learn the whole thing.

Buy a large Chart and put it up on the wall so you keep refreshing your memory, after you have learnt it . It will also help in learning it in first place.

Unless you have been assigned to memorize it for school, I would suggest that you don't bother. Memorizing the periodic table is a huge waste of time (even if it is assigned). I have a degree in chemistry and 20 years experience working in the field and I have never memorized the table. If I need to know something from the periodic table I look at it.

Sorry, there aren't to many tricks around.
I have heard all the elements sung to the tune of a Monty Pythin song, but I can't remember which one. Google should know.

Learn them according to the families..
u know Halides, and alkali metals etc.

Beside if u have a periodic table near you long enough..
u'll remember most of it automatically..

my tutor told me to put one under my table.. stick one near my mirror..

just carry a one when u have Chemistry classes and it'll do nicely.
