Kit is capable of seeing criminals 5 miles away, can tell if they have wepons, it can drive it's self, talk and even make dissisions, so why does it have oil and water readouts on the dash

kitt uses sensors and has backups incase the computer dies like it did in many episodes thats why it has them and the stering wheel and stuff

oh ya the mechanic is a girl gives kitt a soft touch

It's to make the driver feel wanted (i.e. the nut behind the steering wheel).

KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand) can alter these dials too, to fake illness when he just fancies a lie in, instead of all that crime-busting.

BTW, it says, "After plastic surgery officer Michael Long had a new face, a new identity (Michael Knight)" - so they could have chosen any face, Brad Pitt perhaps, but they chose the Hoff ... good call.

Hey , I touched KIT last week in the flesh. Visit the car museum at Kesick Cumbria. The oil light was on too!

So that he appears like a normal car-like a diguise. Plus even if he is a supercomputer, he's still based around the chassis of a (fairly) regular car, which needs oil and water.

good question, which brings me to ask how come the american government could never find airwolf?. their top secret state of the art helicopter and its parked inside a mountain. and where do they fuel up?.

yeah see the problem was that kit still needed somebody to gas him up and change his oil. also they had to keep it lookin low pro.
