You never said if your blazer was 4wd or 2wd. If it is 4wd then it probably isn't working properly. Any properly working 4wd should give you at least some advantage in the snow. There are definately differing opinions out there on which is best but all should help a little. Also, what are you expecting out of your blazer and how is it equipped, and how much snow are you trying to go through. If you are using it in extreme snow conditions and for extreme purposes, and it is not equipped for your demands, it will SUCK. Go to your local off road shop and tell them what you need and demand out of your blazer and they will be glad to help you set it up right. BTW I have found that BF Goodrich T/A radials are the best all around all terrain tire for mud and snow as well as dry pavement driving on my Jeep. And yes, sand bags work but for best results, one word. Tires, tires, tires.

Yeah, Extra weight in the back. Also, wait until it is legal to do so but get studded tires. The precise date this becomes legal changes depending on the area where you live. Studded tires are great in areas where it rains and then freezes. Chains are better in areas where it snows alot I hear.

Besides snow tires, you have some options:

Studded tires...legal in very few places I believe.

Chains...legal where specified. Usually snow country places either require 4 by or chains in steep, snowy areas.

put about 200lbs of sand bags in the back . that will help a bunch. snow tires will give you a 4x4 feel in combination with the sand.

put some extra weight in the back, and carry around a bunch of ashes because they will help with traction in case you get stuck.
