That could be more than one song.... there are a lot of country songs that talk about things like that... theirs Keith Urban (that someone else already answered)... Blaine Larsen sings "The Best Man" (but I don't really think it's that one) Brad Paisley sings "He didn't have to be".... if you can remember the lyrics (any lyrics at all that are long enough) you can type them on a yahoo search and also write lyrics and the song should come up as one of the answers.
