A few weeks ago I asked a question concerning my husband and the odds of his drug conviction being overturned on appeal, except for 2 answeres I got nothing but lectured, judged and told that drugs are bad, I'm going to be a lonely woman, and something about cops breaking down doors. His conviction was overturned and the judge sanctioned for comments he made
so when did we become so self righteous in our opionins that we don't even open our eyes anymore to the possiblites that something may not be right and so easy to judge others that we don't see who we have become, and if we have that right, why do we get so angry when other countries feel they have the same right, All of you out there that felt you had to tell me that I must be to poor and ignorant to afford his defense, first of all both my husband and myself are well educated and make above averge incomes, I hope if you find yourself in trouble someone gives you the same attitude and respect you gave my husband and myself

i know what you mean. they say drugs are bad but the pharmacutical companies make drugs that are bad for you and they are not judged or being convicted for doping up most of the american population, they are making more money making bad drugs than the government is making convicting drug users. i'm glad to hear your husbands conviction was overturned. the cops are out of control and set up anyone they choose, when they are the drug users and they should be convicted. most people aren't in tune with what's really going on they think they have rights until it happens to them.then you'll hear their judgemental *** crying. i have recently got a reality check that a cop a judge, and a prosecuter will lie, threaten, and scare me into doing what they want. now i am finding out my house was illegally searched, my son was interrogated for 4 hours without my knowledge, now he's suicidal, and the cops put bad things in my house that they had seized from a previous drug bust and used the same evidence to do another bust. the judge is the one who signed the illegal search warrant and is determined to send me to prison, even though my codefendent said that i was her victim 2 different times in court. i never thought in a million years the establishment that should of been protecting me and my kids, allowed people with prior criminal history to walk the streets to keep doing what has been done to me. it's a very profitable scam that reeks havok on innocent lives. the great people of this country need to open their eyes and see what's really going on.

Obviously your experience, however distressing, has taught you something about people. You're right: There are far too many people quick to judge on very little evidence. What happened to working together, both in your country and internationally? What happened to giving others the benefit of the doubt, viewing a situation for all its complexities and trying to show some common sense.

Of course, if I get seriously offended by an answerer, I usually respond harshly. But there are those who take a limited amount of information and draw ridiculously wrong conclusions about others.

Good for you for standing up to it!

First drugs are "bad" as you put it, and very many people have no sympathy for those who use them. I would be one of those too. If your that well educated you should realized their is no reason to take drugs or be around those that do drugs. None period.

Second If I ever get in trouble with the law I guess I would have to blame myself. Period. When you post your problems to the public you get a response from all sides, all sorts. If you don't want to be judged keep your problems private.

Dolly...

Undoubtedly you are going to get inflammatory comments to this post as well. It seems to be the nature of the beast in a set of forums such as these. You have people of all ages and backgrounds taking part in discussions that the majority have had no experience in dealing with the topic being discussed. As for being self righteous, it is easy to be self righteous when you are hiding behind a computer monitor where your righteousness is protected with your anonymity. You basically answered your own question here when you said "when we don't see" and "we don't open our eyes anymore to the possibilities".

All I would say to you is don't allow the reaction you received here to make you bitter. The people who offended you and misjudged you and your husband don't care if you are bitter or not. Which is sad. In most cases they would be proud of themselves for their treatment of you. The bitterness you are feeling will only negatively impact you and it will cause you to continue the cycle of unfair behavior.

Congratulations on your husbands ability to achieve justice. The saying that comes to mind is.. "that which does not destroy us doesn't necessarily make us stronger, but it does broaden our range of experience (even if it's in directions nobody in their right mind would willingly choose to undergo)." - Warren Zevon

All the best to you and your husband.... Take Care....

Tammy

Wow. Angry with a bone to pick! I would have to question your educational accomplishments based upon the grammatical errors in your litany above.

I don't see Americans as self righteous at all. Opinionated yes. But that is a good thing. Sounds like you got an ear full of opinion when you told your tale of woes at the time your husband was facing hard time for his involvement in illegal drugs. And that's a good thing too.

I doubt your hubby was lilly white and as clean as the driven snow with innocence regarding his drug related charges and conviction. But he got off. Probably on a technicality right? And it's doubtful this is his first offense. Right? So he fits the mold. Did he learn this time or is he still at it? Unless he sought professional help chances are he is still at it. Using; selling; dealing etc.

Call me stereotypical but don't call me stupid. Sounds like the answers you got a few weeks ago were probably good advice, but you didn't want to hear it.

Don't ask the question if you don't want to hear the answers.

"self righteousness" is what America is all about....look at out past history, we have always been judgmental and had a super police mentality....they are only being true to form and a product of their environment.
