You doing a term paper?
I see great humor in this piece. Also a lesson. The humor is rather slapstick (or would that be slapwiper?) The lesson is that life is not sure and beauty is no guarantee.

The butterflys, like birds in Renaissance poetry, represent the author/poet/artist. The ability to fly symbolizes the poets ability to create, to create is the nature of the poet, as flying is the nature of the butterfly. The car windshield, some might say represents the cruel hand of copyright right laws which perverts art. This is what the author seems to be trying to tell us. But I disagree with the author, I think subconsciously the "splat" represents the internal struggle of the author brought upon by the creative process. It is His shame and fears at his inability to produce, what he feels, is meaningful art. He, subconsciously feels that he is not capable of producing lasting and great work. The "splat" is a manifestation of that insecurity, disguised as critique of copy right laws, because the authors inability to create is too painful for him/her to bear. The satirical factor, I believe, is a scapegoat.
Being that it is copyrights that are being atacked we must look into the concept of the muse. It seems by the mention of copy right that our poet has been inspired by someone else's muse, or work. He feels he needs to use the other persons muse/work, to create meaningful art, but feels guilt. In truth I don't think sharing a muse matters. Two people can not express the exact same things. His work would represent the unique internal workings of his mind, no one elses. The scapegoating thus seems unnessary, the poem suggests struggle for the poet to find his voice in a world of established poets. Its about feeling incompetant.

The butterfly represents most likely a person or experience the writer had. Most written words are personal to the writer so the only true way to know would be to contact them.
