Yeah, I pay $1.26 a pack for smokes, doesn't get much cheaper than that. Somehow they get away with not having to charge the cig tax, because they use a thin cigar paper and call them little cigars... but they're not, they are cigs. I'll quit before I go back to paying $5 a pack. Working on it, tried 3 times and will try again. Thanks to all!

I guess get the cheap cigarettes....Unless you are 100% sure you will be able to stop smoking. Good Luck if you try. I haven't had any luck.

I quit 5 years ago and what seemed logical to me was to smoke a cigar once in a while if the cravings got really bad. That way I would not inhale (too strong), but I'd get the whole general smoking experience. That worked well. At first I had a couple a month, now I hardly ever even want a cigar, maybe a few a year (they are nasty). For me, there are no more cravings, it's just mental, mostly. I think the physical addiction is out of your system in a few days actually.

Natural Quit Smoking Magic

One cigarette is as bad as another. They contain over 50 chemicals, besides the tobacco.
Its not just the nicotine. Its also the other 50+ chemicals they out in cigarettes. Also the main problem is habit.
We have been used to having body sensations which we translate as 'my body needs something, which we have attempted to satisfy by having a cigarette.
When we try to stop smoking, we still get these 'my body needs something' sensations, and we still feel that we want a cigarette. We have to train our body to be more selective. When we feel we need something, we have to work out what it is that we actually need.
A glass of water is an excellent substitute if nothing else comes to mind, as it helps with the clearance of the toxic substances in our body. Another good substitute is a bag of salted peanuts, used in combination with the water.
Another thing to do is to find an activity which occupies the mind or body. Go swimming - nobody wants to smoke while they are swimming. Slowly, as our body adjusts and translates the 'want something' feelings into something other than cigarettes, then the feelings begin to go away. We know its not a cigarette that the body really needs, because as soon as we've had one we still have the feeling, and want another!

Why don't you invest your paycheck in a package of Nicoderm and try to quit. It worked for my husband in just a few weeks, and now he's been smoke-free for the past 5 years.

Just think of what it would do to your health! And to your savings account-- after investing in the patch, money that you'd normally have spent on cigarettes could go into something else instead.

Try to find a better grade cheap cigarette. Pall Mall Filters are almost as cheap as generics but they are very smokable. Camel has a lot of deals too. Winstons do a coupon thing.
Make a plan and quit when you can.

You absolutely should not- it's bad enough that a portion of your paycheck is devoted to companies who produce cancer-inducing, atmosphere-poluting, teeth-rotting cigarettes; please, don't give the big companies any more support than you have to.

And besides, you'll need that money to pay for all the cancer treatment you WILL have to go through (it's not a matter of IF, it's a matter of WHEN).

here are some sites that are designed to help those who want to quit:
http://www.cdc.gov/TOBACCO/how2quit.htm
http://www.quitnet.com/
http://www.smokefree.gov/

here is a link to a picture comparing two lungs... the one on the right, the one that looks like it was burned and stepped on, was taken out of a smoker.

Please, isn't there someone in this world that you are fond enough of to want to be around for another fifty years, not ten? The best present you could give them (and the environment- secondhand smoking is at least as unhealthy!) would be to just quit altogether.

What is the point in quiting smoking cheap cigarettes just to smoke expensive ones? Doh!!!! Just quit altogether.

My partner and I have. We have joined a gym with the money that we have saved from not smoking.

If your whole paycheck is only as much as the cost of a carton, either quit smoking or quit your job!

No I think we should just quit smoking! I know, easier said than done!! Marlboros are yucky though, just my opinion! If I had to smoke nothing but those, I would just quit!
