I've tried poetry.com and it was nothing more than a scam. Without being had, how do I get some semblence of publication?

Again, I repeat, I submitted to poetry.com and they are a SCAM. What part of SCAM don't you understand?

If you buy a copy of Writer's Market, (I believe it costs < $25, roughly the price of entering 1 writing contest on the internet), there is a long listing of agencies which will read your submissions for free. You can also look online for poetry-specific magazines which accept unsolicited submissions without any kind of fee. Good luck in your creative endeavors!

I have written poetry for five years and have had it successfully published on various websites. If you want to make money, you'd be better off sending snippets to Mad and Reader's Digest or blogging on Soulcast or writing abstracts for Shvoong. Why not try poetry readings instead and gain an audience which could lead to the publication of a collection of poems by a publishing company?

Poets and Writers is a legitimate organization that gives many sorces for poetry. They have been around since the 70s. They list readings, workshops, grants and awards, small presses, etc.

If you press their links button, you will find other resources and places for young poets to send their work.

Good luck.
