A full bladder gives the technician an easy starting point. This is true for any female uterine and pelvic ultrasound. If you are having an internal ultrasound (magic wand with some lube and a condom on it) they will have you empty your bladder, the reason being they are inside as apposed to going through skin and fascia and muscle. This is for pregant and non pregnant women.

A full bladder is necessary so that it might not be misinterpreted as the fetus/baby. As for you, you're still 5 months pregnant and the baby is very small, just like the size of your bladder when half filled. I suggest that you drink water the time you'll leave your house so that you will not have the urge to urinate while the ultrasound is going on.

this is directly from the pamphlet they gave me before i went in for my ultrasound:
A full bladder is very important. The bladder functions as a "window" to see the pelvic organs which are located behind the bladder. A full bladder aslo pushes the bowel out of the way of the ultrasound waves.

For some machines a full bladder will act as a 'magnifying glass', and help the imaging resolution be more clear. It is not needed with every ultrasound, ( thank good because I had routine ones every 2 weeks til birth! ). I believe it also helps lift the uterus out of the pelvic bone and causes baby to be a bit more active. The lil beans hate having pressure on them so they will wiggle every which way they can to escape it.

yea, you need a full bladder with any type of ultrasound. They are to get a better view of the baby with a full bladder. They doc will explain exactly how it works if you ask him/her to, but basically it just helps them get a better image of the baby.

Maybe a full bladder helps move the baby into an "easier to access" site.

they continuously say no longer something is definate. i had the three & 4d one for my 20wk test. we've been given an impressive shot of our bub's genitals. the female switched to 3-D on the superb 2d - suited shot. even nevertheless you need to tell it develop right into a boy she suggested nothings definate cos the two sexes could be 'swollen' of their genital area. ive have been given 2 nieces, a nephew and our son and so far, looking out the sexes has been a hundred% precise. in easy terms a be conscious tho, i didnt pass out and get all blue clothing. i've got been given yellow, white and a few blue products in basic terms in case. good success.....
