An alternate view:
Ever wondered how the US managed to get all prepared for war in such a short notice upon attack at Pearl Harbour? (A military force of that size would take months to get prepared for a operation on that scale) Well, I believed that the US was already preparing for a war as it anticipated that the Axis powers would be attacking USA once it was done with the other powers. the attack on Pearl Harbour simply brought the war to american shores. With or without Pearl Harbour, the US was probably going into war anyway to defend itself, and its democracy.

The were a slew of things that people had wanted to go to have the US enter WWII with, but the one thing that made the president decide to declare war was Japan's bombing of Pearl Harbor. The funny thing was that the US never declared war against Germany or Italy...they declared it against the US as those two countries were allies with Japan.

The most probable motivating factor was the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Hawaii by the Japanese.
In Europe, it was probably seen that after the fall of France, England was the single force keeping Hitler from conquering all of Europe.
