There are many ways to make desktop wallpapers, and you can use different graphic programs to create them (such as Adobe Photoshop, Coreldraw, or even MS Paint). The easiest way is to upload an existing photo to your pc's hard drive, right click on your desktop, choose Properties, Background, then Browse to locate the file that you uploaded.

If you want to create a custom wallpaper, first step is to set your image size first either 800x600 pixels or 1024x768 pixels. I normally use Photoshop to create my wallpapers, so when I click File, then New, from there I can set the dimensions of my project.

You can decide on whether you want to work on an existing photo or graphic, or if you want to start with a blank page. For beginners, I suggest that you just "enhance" an existing graphic by adding text, clipart and other effects. Do you want to create a wallpaper out of personal photos? Favorite actors, bands, sports teams? Photoshop has lots of editing, enhancing and image correction tools, where you can, for example, put your name on Kobe Bryant's jersey, or even replace Brad Pitt's photo with your own pic, beside Angelina Jolie.

The possibilities are limitless, and it all depends on your skill and creativity if you want to come up with just simple or really mind-blowing desktop wallpaper designs.
