I have been there on visits and on a few projects now and then. The place is great! Unlike other countries in the Gulf vicinity, rules and regulations are a bit more relaxed and it is seen as a more Western friendly environment.

If you are a party animal, there's lots to do in Dubai, but it does burn a hole in your pocket at the end of the month. Unlike Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, alcohol is available for purchase provided you have the appropriate permit to do so.

It is quite a multicultural place where you can expect to see people from all over the world. I definitely recommend going there.

One downside is that it is extremely humid throughout the year except for 2 or 3 months where the weather is very pleasant.

I have not worked in Dubai, UAE, but I have been there while serving in the Navy.

They have many openings for cab drivers, who seem to need absolutely no training. Indeed, it is common for cab drivers to stop, and ask directions of more experienced cab drivers.

There is also a large mall, I believe this mall has a small art gallery, along with a large movie theater, a clothing store, a music store, a hookah store, and a skate park.

Cell phones are sold in many areas, and most people I talked to spoke at least a little english.

Alcohol, from what I can gather, is entirely illegal in Dubai, and the women wear form fitting black outfits that cover everyting but their eyes. This is slightly different from the flowing robes worn elsewhere.

There is a very large pier, with may tug boats, and cruise ships sometimes stop off here. In the area is a duty free store, and a car dealership.

Various hotels in the area allow women to engage in less than reputable, and probably less than legal trades. Some other buildings have large numbers of armed guards around them, although I do not know what they are for.
