He gave all his creation free will. Satan used to be one of God's faithful angels until he wanted the worship God was getting for his own. That is when he abadoned his friendship with God and lured in Adam and Eve. His challenge was that man could make his own decision, that they didn't need God's direction and that all humans served out of selfishness basically....Yes we are made in God's image with the potential to do good but we have free will to serve God or not....of course he judges by our decision.

It's all part of how we obtain our rightful place above the angels in serving the almighty Lord. If you are a believer, which I'm assuming you are, because you didn't say IF God made. Then, you know that serving the Lord is finally being free enough to deny yourself and love something bigger. Some things God places on our hearts to ask him. God loves to confirm his relationship with you all the time and he does.

BTW... We're not supposed to be entangled in the trap of satan anymore brother, Jesus died and became a curse, that we could have life more abundantly. Testify to that and walk in love, you've got the ability to work miracles within you, the blood of Jesus is over your life making you a blameless as the righteousness of God. Seek first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you. Love the Lord your God and keep no other false idols above him (drugs, alcohol, women). The Lord is your shepard and you shall not want (because you'll never have a need). Be you, and when you see something that looks like trouble coming at you, or even feels like it's taking you down. Remember that faith is the belief in things unseen. We walk live and breathe what's not seen. You've got the Spirit of God in you and you are more than a conqueror who can take down giants. Talk with God, build your relationship with him, firs tremove the plank from your own eye and after that maybe you can help out some of your friends when they come up on these same questions that you're asking right now. Trust god for the answer, why go to a friend or Yahoo answers, when Jesus has given you a direct connection with the Almighty himself who will give you a perfect answer. God Bless you, sorry if I got carried away, Ask god for guidance brother! Best of wishes in your personal walk with God.

If you study up on your bible, God obviously has a soft spot for that fiendish fallen angel. He talks to Satan in the Book of Job, and intends to allow Satan to exist until the end of days.

Man, being made in God's image apparently also has a soft spot for satan. Perhaps man's soft spot is a little different, but I suspect that the main reason we, made in the "image" of god, are entangled in the trap of satan is the fact that unlike god, we are not all-knowing, all-powerful, or all-good. Whether God is in fact all three of these has given some people difficulty understanding as well, but if we who are not all these things are made in the image of god, what that image is also causes us some trouble.

In ancient Jewish tradition Satan is simply an angel doing the work that God assigned to Satan to do.

The word Satan means challenger. With the idea of Satan challenging us, or tempting if you will. This description sees Satan as the angel who is the embodiment of man's challenges. This idea of Satan works closely with God as an integral part of Gods plan for us. His job is to make choosing good over evil enough of a challenge so that it becomes clear to us that there can be only one meaningful or logical choice.

Contrast this to Christianity, which sees Satan as God's opponent. In Jewish thought, the idea that there exists anything capable of setting itself up as God's opponent would be considered polytheistic or setting up the devil to be an equally powerful polarity to god or a demigod.

Oddly, proof for The Christian satan/devil mythology is supposedly found in the ancient Jewish texts that were borrowed to create the bible. One can’t help but wonder how Christians came up with such a fantastically different interpretation of Gods assistant Satan in their theology.

Other hints about Satan’s role in human relations can be seen if you look at the name Lucifer. It’s meaning in the original tongue translates as Light bearer or light bringer. Essentially the bringer of enlightenment. The temptations of the Satan idea bring all of us eventually into Gods light. Hardly the Evil entity of Christian mythology.

I'm feeling deep right now since it's way past my bedtime. Umm, I'm not sure I understand the question. If you're asking why is man doomed to what the Devil plays on us, why doesn't god stop him, well, I think it's because God has a better plan in mind. Again, not very sure what you're asking.

If man has followed what God made there will be no problems. However, man thinks he is smarter and made God in his image. That is why all the problems crop up.

The God of the Old Testament is a sadist which is the complete opposite of how he is portrayed in the New Testament and in modern churches.

Read the first few pages of Genesis (it's in a book called the Bible). If that doesn't explain it for you, drop philosophy and take up peanut vending.
