I have run into the problem that trying to do a straight copy of the windows directory from drive c: to drive e:, so that I may switch drives (making what is now the e: drive the ci: drive and vice versa) and reboot using my larger drive as my system drive. I have effecively run out of space for windows on the smaller drive and need to port everything to the larger drive. There are files that windows will not allow me to copy because they are in use while I attempt to do this, so I am trying to use cmd.exe to effect this, but have forgotten how to do this as I have not used DOS in several years. anybody's insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

The command you're looking for is "xcopy". Type "xcopy /?" for all the parameters.

To do an exact copy of file and folders you can use the xcopy command. type xcopy/? to find out the available options

Another thing, copying all files from one drive to another will not copy windows from one drive to another. Why ? this is because there are many paths written in system registry(run regedit command to view registry), so even if you copy the files the paths inside registry won't change.

While "copy *.* /s" and "xcopy *.* /s /e" will copy all the files, it will not prep the new drive for starting up Windows. For moving your entire O/S to another drive, I would recommend a utility like Ghost or DiskCopy instead since they will copy not only the system files, but the entire disk/partition (including boot info).

just copying the files will not do. Your installed software still point to Drive C in the Registry. So there will be a fair amount of registry editing to do.

Open force C and create the itemizing you prefer to repeat into. decrease the window to 0.5 reveal screen and open the E force. decrease the window to 0.5 length so the homestead windows are part by using part. click on the E force and in the precise menu bar decide on Edit then decide on All. this could spotlight all of the folders and documents. precise click and carry down the properly suited mouse button. Drag the pointer to the folder you created on the C force. launch the mouse button and choose reproduction here.
