Hi

Yes Actually it is conceivable a Ray could do in wooden canoe or other very small craft...

They can go through a wooden boat hull.. Ive seen it.. They also would not do an inflateable one,, a world of good.. but they would not ruin it just puncture it ...

They attack if left no choice... feel threatened.. They do not attack in groups or a frenzy...its a hit and they are gone .. with an occasional 2nd hit

There have been a few isolated reports of Sting rays actually turning and coming back to hit the victim another time when t could have just swam away... since I have read about these but not seen footage and reports are not easily verified.. and it wold be very odd... I doubt how accurate they are.

I have never heard of any confirmed ray attacking iIF IF IF given a way out .......they are very docile.

Steve Irwin , accidently cornered a ray that was hidden in teh sand... This wo uld have been a Benthic Ray the type of ray that hides and feeds on the bottom.. It was truly a freak accident because ... he had to be exactly where he was and the ray exactly where it was and the time had to be right then and so on..

Quite sad really. But if you swim in the ocean.. you risk it.. Steve knew that.

So yes it is possible for a Ray to lash its barb right through a simple wooden surface like an old canoe or boat making it leak

But I cant see one doing it unless its being caprtured...

Rays are very misunderstood,, they are wonderful really..

Did you also know that if you are stung ... since the venom is proteinaceous, it can be inactivated by exposure to high temperaturespouring VERY hot water or any other hot liquid over the sting site relieves the pain and also reduces the toxins.

Not all Rays , and there are a ton of them have barbs...
Rays live in both fresh and salt water.. Different types of course live in each..
We have rays on both coast lines in the US and fresh water rivers in Florida

Best way to keep from getting stung by startling a ray when going into the ocean,, is to
Know if it is a common ray area first , and to shuffle your feet along the bottom in teh sand not step.. this kicks up sand and gives them a good warning and they will bail out ...

Most people get stung when they accidently step on the back of a ray that was hidden in the sand,,, and its tail comes up and barbs them in the leg or ankle,,thigh...

Well good Luck

The crocodile hunter found out that stin rays can devastate a human.....but as for a boat.....I think all the other answers are correct. No. Why? Maybe if it was a really big sting ray and a really small boat.....and several other factors. But problably not a chance in heck!

A rich old man should never go out in boat with money hungry family members in sting ray laden waters! Anything might happen! It's a scary world out there. To listen to the news we'd be thinking that the sting rays have gone mad and would forget to ask if it really happened just the way it was told!

The wingspan of a stingray can reach up to 5 feet across. Add to that their whip like tail and the poisonous barbs, a loose stingray can in its panic cause severe injury to anyone who happens to be close to the animal. Steve Irwin the "crococile hunter" was killed when a stingray's barb pierced his heart and stingrays are, in fact, the most common cause of severe fish stings. The largest of the rays are the giant manta rays whose wingspan can reach over 20 feet wide and weigh as much as 3000 pounds or more. An animal this large could certainly wreck havoc to small watercraft, but the mantas are usually gentle, shy animals that eat plankton. Another name for the giant rays is "devilfish."

Are you stupid? Stingrays aren't a kilometer long...
I would consider you less stupid if you had asked about some giant squid or whales...
To '?':
Titanic did NOT founder on a stingray barb. Titanic sank because she hit a huge iceberg, which opened up a hole down her hull.
And the destruction on Pearl Harbour was due to bombs and torpedoes, not stingrays! Go and read your history textbooks, you ignoramus.
