You might be better off just trying to write a check and depositing it in a new account in your home country. There may be a small fee, but it could be cheaper and quicker in the long run versus working through the mail and getting the paperwork "certified." A lot of banking laws got tougher after 9/11. At most, you might have to leave $25 dollars in the account and just forget about it.

Try writing a letter or calling first to see how difficult it would be.

You should call the bank and ask them what they require in order for you to close it. It will probably be a notarized form you have to sign enclosed with a legal photo ID but the bank is the best place to ask to find out how. Otherwise, since it is a checking account, couldn't you write yourself a check and cash it? I understand you would have to convert it to your country's form of currency but with proper ID I would think there is somewhere in your country to get it cashed. I wish you the best.

You must create new account in another international bank or get a credit card then go the Chevy chess bank site & redeem your money to your new account .

Step 1 is to call them at +1-301-987-2265.

You might be able to get away with finding a check-casher in your country who will cash a US check - you migth not get a great rate, but it beats not having the money at all.
