Or at least condoning segregation. I can't wait to be called a racist by that question. FYI I'm not a racist but you can say it if you want because everybody has their opinions. But I'm just getting opinions myself.

Yes. It is. Pure and simple.
When I first saw BET (Black Entertainment Television) I was amazed. We have come so far, then stepped back.
On the other hand, were was "WET"... of course not.

Segregation is awful, and as a society, we have come "so far" but yet the underlying, pre-concieved notions of what defines us will always prevail.

Man, I love watching "The Mind of Mencia" on Comedy Central, the "Chappell Show", and "South Park".

NOBODY IS IMMUNE. NOBODY ESCAPES from the notions of society.... race, religion, gender, ethnicity, sexual preferance,
physical limitations, NOTHING escapes these shows!

While they are so funny, and entertaining, they speak the truth.

And as people, with all the P.C. B-crap in our society....
this is a welcome relief.

Hence the popularity of these shows.
We all love to laugh at each other....
yet we see the truth, the humor, as described by others, in ourselves.

South Park has been on the air for 10 years....
for a reason...

The charactors of Kyle, and Stan are the voice of reason.
I love how they can educate, all of us, even though they are
Jewish, and Christian, and as 4th graders, pissed off, but yet display the voice of common sence and reason.. to their parents and theirselves.. each and everytime....

In the face of Cartman...
who is so lovingly selfish...
who is "YOU!"

I love Eric Cartman... he is so funny...

So self serving... yet so real!!!!

Remember kidney blocker 2000?

I know Nicole is so mad at me...
But you all need to know one thing, she is wonderful.

Only a very loving person would have asked this question.

Be nice to her...
Because God knows I wasn't.

As "His" servents...

Delight in this fact.

We can all laugh not only "at" each other,
but "with" each other!!!!!

All things aside, take pride in who you are.
Be proud of yourself.

God put us all here for a reason.

Nicole knows this.

We all share the same Planet, the same air.

Love each other...

Love..

is everything......

Well to one of the users on here..there is a Hispanic history month..it's in September..and Asian history month is in May. In my area we have a huge festival during both months September and May. Anyways, I really don't care about Black history month..and I'm half Black. We can just get rid of it and just teach black,Asian,Hispanic, anything American history in history class. It just seems to create racism when you give different races their own month for their history and leave out some. People get so angry...

I don't think you are a racist, but you have to think of why these things exist.
BET was created because before that not many black people were on television, unless they were being a maid or something.
Miss black America, I don't even like any pageants, but I guess they have that because there weren't enough black women in the regular pageants.
As for black history month, it's just an appreciation for what black people have done. Though I don't like it because it sort of says that black people are only to be thought of for one month and that's it.

EDIT: I think DL is right. A lot of people have suffered and I think every race that has been wronged should get their dues. I'm black, but I am not so ignorant as to believe that only black people have suffered in this world.
Dogface: Everyone learns about many races. When I was in school I learned about Indians, the French, the British, the Aztecs, and so on. I;m not any of those races and I still enjoyed learning about them and thought it was important to learn about them. They contributed to the world.

No, I do not think Black history month, Black entertainment television nor Miss Black America is racist. Nor do I think that a black person wearing a t-shirt with "Black Power" is racist. Nor is it racists for a million of black people to march on Washington cheering the slogan.

I do think something called "White history month, White entertainment television and Miss White America would be racist. Likewise, a million white people marching on Washington chanting "White Power, White Power" wouldn't only be ridiculous and unecessary, but down right frighteningly rascist. In all o these examples, there is NO double standard.

Why? For the simple reason that black people have been traditionally oppressed in North American society and white people have not. For this reason, and for other reasons I will not go into, it is perfectly alright for a Black person to publically express his or her pride in their heritage, and at the same time it is NOT fine for white people person to do so.

When a group of people have been oppressed in a society that group will rebell against that oppression by expressing pride in their heritage even more fervently than if they were not oppressed. This is natural for any group of traditionally opressed people to do so.

Ask the question: what would a million "black power" demonstrators marching on Washington seek to acheive? (A: more freedom and justice). Who would they be trying to influence? (A: white people - the vast majority of congressmen are white). At the same time, what would a million "white power" demonstrators want from Washington? (A: More power for white people and less power for black people.) Who woudl they be trying to influence? (A: white people just like them - people who already have more power than black people.) Therein lies the difference. Think about it.

To Dog Face Boy: WTF!?! Black people do not have to learn about white people? If they are studying American history they do! If they are studying the great Renaissance artists they do! And Black history is in text books. Ohh and just because a school chooses a text book, does not mean it has all the details of American or any other history. There are entire classes devoted to black, Hispanic, Asian, and native American history. Also judging from the way you type, maybe you should go back to school.

I have to agree with bobsayshi on the double standard that exists, but I would not label it racism. The only way it would condone segregation is if it were to exclude non blacks but my little cousin (we are Ecuadorian) watches BET all the time. Another large part is marketing - BET is geared towards a certain demograph and it has been very effective.

Yep!!! When are we going to have American Indian month.. Or Oriental month an so on.. Seems kinda one sided.. Heck they at least got 40 acres an a mule.. All us Indians got was ran off our lands when the “boat people” got here. Pushed off in to the deserts and every where else no one wanted to live. Given blankets from the US Government laced with small pox.. But thats okay, weve got Casinos now.. LOL

No, I don't think so. Black history is important. It's not condoning segregation. On the other hand, I think there would be a huge outcry if suddenly there was Miss White America or White entertainment TV. What's good for the goose if certainly not good for the gander. Reverse racism can be a wonderful thing huh?

I don't think Black history month is racist at all. I don't know who picked February because that's the shortest month. BET I'm not sure about. Miss Black America kinda is.
