During the summer the nights are cold. I wish I could open a window and have all the hot air rush out. Why doesn't somebody design a house to do just that?

You can do that, get a ginormous fan and stick it in one window on one side of the house (preferably the side with the wind blowing in it) to suck air in, and then another fan on the other side of the house blowing hot air out. One side will fill the house with cold air and the other will blow out the hot air. My wife and I use this technique and it works very very well. We put the fan that sucks air in right over our bed so that the bedroom cools off first and then open a window on the opposite side of the house to let the hot air escape down there. We had the AC on for like, 3 days last summer. It was great.

I live in a hot country and our windows are so made, as to almost touch the ceiling, facing other windows or doors, to make draught.
If you do not live in a hot country, there is no need to construct a house in such a "bizzare" way (always taking in mind the weather conditions prevailing)...

If the house is alrady constructed, try to make draught by opening windows on opposite sides of the house, even if they do not face each other. Make sure that the doors are fixed, so they wouldn't bang!

Good luck!

They have been building/designing houses like the one you want for years.

A lot of old houses in the Florida Keys area were designed so that you get a "cross flow", this"draws" out the warm air-leaving the house cool.
