In France, it is the 14th of July. It is the day the french took the bastille in 1789 at the beginning of the french revolution. It is a national holiday.
It's the equivalent of the 4th of July for the US.

If you were interested in the "fete nationale" of some other french speaking countries:
belgium: 21 July
quebec (though not a country): 24 June
Switzerland: 1 August

Sorry but Aldo is wrong!!! I'm French so I should know!!!
La Fete Nationale is France National Day. We celebrate it on July 14th each year.
On July 14th, 1789, The French people put to death (guillotine) the then King of France Louis XVI and proclamed the Republic.
It was the birth of modern France.
It's a bit sad though that our National Day commemorates an execution.... I guess you could say we commerate the death of the King and the birth of a nation....
