Well... Think of becoming deserted on an island...What would you need to survive. What things don't you know but would need to know to live.

Agreculture. Planting, seed preperation and planting plant care.

Building. Collecting materials and making tools.

Science. To understand the world around you. How things work and how to do everything... The Mechanics of the universe.

Health and first aid. Making water safe and starting fires, treating wounds and illnesses.

And of course... The Bible. Because in its correct form and understanding it is the foundation and pillar for morality, sprituality and structure.

If I could sneak one more... I would have to bring Louis Turco's Book of forms. So that we could have a fantastic base for re building the lost writings of the world.

Hopefully after that... The world would revert back to a simpler time and all of the inventions that are supposed to; Help us, entertain us and make life "Easier" for us. would dissappear off the face of the earth completely and everyone would start reading and writing again.

I read a great book called Lucifer's Hammer about a comet that strikes Earth.
One small section in the story had the intellectual guy saving certain books in zip-lock bags for fear of losing knowledge.
His choices were (I wish I had that book handy) were along the lines of "How Things Work" books. You've seen them at B. Dalton.

Uncle Wrath's Top Five Books worth saving.

1. The Art of War
2. Zen and the Art of Archery
3. How Things Work
4. Philosophy for Dummies
5. Solar Energy and Home Heating

The Complete Works of Shakespeare (all you need to know about humanity is contained there).

Anthony F. Janson's History of Art (latest edition) to have some record of the finer aspects of humanity

A Briefer History of Time by Stephen Hawking and Leonard Mlodinow to keep us thinking of our place in the universe

The Norton Scores (all the volumes bound into one book, cheating, I know) so music could be preserved

The Complete Tales of Beatrix Potter to keep the child alive in all of us.

The practical matters could be figured out as we go and as we come upon materials that suggest themselves to us, but the art, literature, and music could be lost forever to our detriment. So this is just a list off the top of my head, tomorrow I might have five others, although I think Shakespeare would always be on my list.

once you're saying the international, are you talking approximately our international in accordance with humanity or our international as an entire? have you ever seen existence After human beings? sturdy sequence. That sequence is what I base my answer on. I dont think of the international may be doing too undesirable without us. in certainty, i will even bypass as a ways to declare extra useful.

well I would say the "scrabble dictionary" is a top priority because otherwise the world would degenerate into chaos because of all the fighting without it.
