Why when I come to the logical conclusion that my life is unimportant and living it is a chore rather than a pleasure do I find myself feeling like I just have to carry on? Perhaps instinct over-rides logic, or is it that I actually enjoy life, but convince myself I don't?

Some of you seem to answering in a very "nice" way, this means you have misunderstood the question.
There have been times that I have contemplated suicide- either due to depression or getting too foocked up(usually a combination of both), at the moment I'm fine. I'm thinking logically and appart from upsetting other people I can't see any reason I shouldn't die.By the way I'm atheist so I don't believe in an afterlife- Whats the point in death if It just carries on the same afterwards. Maybe what I need is a break from conciousness.

this is an intelligent question..as we have no real sense of survival anymore...we kinda know the bottom line and how our lives are going to progress but its the mundane basic living which has replaced our primevil instinct to survive..thats why i think we all seem to have more lust for life during a crisis as it kick starts that survival instinct and makes us more detrmined to live. I think we are all on the road to self destruction!!!

If it feels like a chore all of the time something may be wrong with your chemical balance or you may be depressed. If you can't find joy in life it would be hard to go on but there is help. You need to talk to someone real about your problems, face to face. There must be someone you can trust, do you attend church? Your pastor should be able to direct you. Are you part of a youth group, maybe the leader could help. If you are in school still you could seek help from the nurse or student health. It sounds to me like you are contemplating suicide and you would benefit from a talk with someone, maybe a suicide hot line? You must do something to help yourself, get medication of psychological help because believe me, even if life sucks a lot of the time it is definitely worth it for the little time that it doesn't suck.

You convince yourself that you're unhappy.

Look at your life in very close detail and compare it to that of someone of your age in a third world country.

You are on a computer, so I'm guessing it's yours or your familys, you have a roof over your head, a bed at night, clothes and food. Essentials to life that have been given to you by virtue of the fact you were born where you were born. Consider how you'd feel if it was all taken away and you found yourself in a refugee camp in Eritraea or in the middle of a war zone in Angola. No clothes, no house, no food, not even any water. Disease and pestilence, death and decay all around you, and risking your life just by being there every day.

Then you would be justified in questioning your existence.

You may feel as if your life is unimportant, but it is. Even in answering this question I have to search my own soul for answers. Everyone has those times when all the bells and whistles are not going off, it's a part of the cycle of life. Remember, everyone you meet and speak to on an everyday basis, the grocery clerk, the mailman.......you have a way of touching their lives Take joy from the Small things and move on from there. *PEACE*

i suggest you think this over in quiet place. perhaps you could go to a bridge somewhere, stare down at the water and think about all the things you hate about life. or you could get over it and realize that life in 21st century america is a probably a million times better then back in the day. if you dont believe me try living in the wilderness for a few months and maybe you'll discover that your life isnt that bad. if theres something i dont know about, like that your life in peticular sucks more than most because of crap that has happened, i decided that if my life ever came to that i move to a different city and make new friends. you know like maybe a few hundred people in america out of what, like 300 million.

Maybe you will make a difference in the future. There are many people that we look up to and mould our lives around and without those people we would all be bored. I couldn't live without Terry Pratchett, Green Day, The guy who owns Playstation and probably a few hundred more people. Maybe one day you will make my list if you try to achieve something. Don't give up as you could be the person who influences the world.

You need to do something for others. Charity is the purest love of Christ. It gets your mind off your problems and makes you feel better. Besides, wouldn't it suck if you ended your life and God said "oh, hell no, you are going right back down there till you do it right" Might as well get it over with while you've gone this far. It would suck if you had to do it all over again from the beginning. You need to build your spiritual body, so it can kick you physical body's butt. It will make you feel better. Don't you know God put us down here to be happy? He doesn't want any of His children to be sad. Don't believe me? Ask Him. He'll tell you.

Your here because God wants you to be! It sounds like your very depressed. I know sometimes it's hard just to get through the day, and we wonder why we are here. That 's when we feel they way your feeling now. There must be something in your life that brings you some joy, what is it? I pray you have faith in the Lord because He can help uplift your spirits. You need to pray about it and take your sorrow to the Lord. You also need to see a doctor to help you. It may be a chemical imbalance, or like I said before it may be depression. But please get help. Good luck & Lord Bless!

Suicide is never the answer.
Perhaps the reason why life hasn't been pleasurable for you is because you haven't been doing things you enjoy. If you sit there complaining why life isn't fun, don't expect a miracle to happen. Go outside, make some friends, get an education, go to church, play games, listen to HAPPY music...not emo music..., watch tv, dine out, work out, play sports, go shopping, learn to play an instrument, MAKE URSELF USEFUL
