Ive got 3 problems, one is that the car vibrates when i turn right or left at stop signs. it feels like the 4x4 system, but it does switch into 4x4 high and low just fine. It will vibrate about 3 times, and last for around 1 second each time..any clues?
Next is my transmission seems to clunk into drive and reverse coming out of park.it also clunks on the free way if i let off the gas and put my foot on the pedal and give it gas quickly.it happens maybe every 1 out of 10 times i try to get it to do it.
Last is when i go up steep hills at full throttle, the rpm(and engine)tend to fluctuate back and forth 100rpms..
thats it..can anyone help me??
if you need more details on something, let me know..yahoo doesnt give much space

thank you

First off, is your truck still within it's warranty period? If so, take it to your local Ford dealer, and mention to the service advisor your complaint regarding your transmission exhibitting a harsh engagement concern. The TSB (technical service bulletin) number for this concern is 05-21-8. And the part you need replaced is a solenoid pack (part number 4L2Z-7G391-AA). Secondly, regarding your vibration or chattering concern while turning. Is your vehicle equipped with Traction-Lok (limited slip differential)? If so, it's probably your clutch packs that need replacing. The TSB number that addresses this concern is 06-4-4. And the part number for the clutch packs is F5AZ-4947-BA. As far as your RPM fluctuation concern goes, there are too many possibilties to list here. You didn't mention if it's equipped with the 4.6L V8 or the 4.0L SOHC V6, so it's hard if not impossible to give you any definite answers for that concern. I hope this helps though. Good luck.

Actually, the proper trans fluid is MERCON V, the trans will shudder other wise. As for your rattling and clunking, you might have a problem with the half shafts in the rear of the vehicle. My friend had an 03 Explorer with the symptoms you describe and it ended up being this and a rear wheel bearing. This could also be one of the differentials going out as well. You'll have to take this in to a competent mechanic to be for sure. This isn't a bad vehicle by a long shot, but 4WD is going to be more maintenance than someone is used to in a passenger car or two wheel drive truck.

Check the transmission mount to see if it is broken. Also check the torque side engine mount to see if it is broken. Be sure your transmission has the proper amount of fluid in it. Always check it warm and in park while the engine is running. Don't put in the wrong type of transmission fluid, either. Your truck should be using DEXTRON V transmission fluid. Anything else will cause rough shifting and slipping and other inconvenient things to happen.

I'll tell you, I'd say get rid of it while you can. I had a 93 ford explorer 4wd also and I had to junk it because the engine head was cracked and it wouldn't get sealed... i wouldve needed a whole new engine for 2500 dollars... just save yourself the trouble and get rid of it.
