what, besides worms and insects, can you feed a salamander?

You don't say what kind of salamander you have so this is kind of hard to answer. Most will eat earthworms, mealworms, insects, small lizards, smaller salamanders, small feeder goldfish, guppies, and even newborn mice. They love large moths too. Really depends on the type and size of salamander. They need a varied diet in order to get all the nutrition they need. Remember not to handle the salamander unless necessary. The oils on your hands is toxic to them and can kill them. They have very sensitive skin. They also require a cool damp, environment. About 70 degrees is ideal. Before deciding on what to feed your salamander be sure to check what type it is to make sure it is getting what it needs. There are tons of sites about them. pinkys (baby mice) there cheap too do some research 1st dont listen to these people and try to feed it grapes and cheese. they are carnivores(eat meat) i know they will eat pinkys though i have 4 of them its not good to feed them pinkys all the time maybe 1 every two weeks. if you have a weak belly dont watch because they kinda rip them apart. kinda messy. i have one that will only eat the head. you can usually buy pinky for about 1dollar at any pet store besides petco they dont beleive in selling feeder animals just ask for a pinky

ive heard from a few people that you can feed salamanders little pieces of cheese

Sliced grapes,and lettuce,get some calcium and sprinkle it on top from the pet store.
