The English victory over the French in the French and Indian War certainly played a role. It resulted in many colonists having excellent military training and experience. George Washington was among these.

The Boston Massacre provided a rallying point for colonists becoming increasingly discontented with British rule.

The Boston Tea Party, which was a reaction to the tea tax also provided a rallying point.

The Battle of Lexington is generally regarded as the start of the Revolutionary War.

Those are some I can think of. There certainly were others.
