We are currently apologizing for slavery, for wiping out Native Americans... what next?

I don't imagine we Americans will have anything as large as slavery or genocide to apologize for, but I have to admit, we're stomping over some fragile ground.

Once the passion and fury of antiterrorism pass, I get the feeling we're going to have to do some apologizing to the Muslims. A lot of Americans (and Europeans) equate Islam as a whole with a few sects of fundamentalists, and have been saying and doing some pretty terrible things.

I also suspect that our clamor over illegal immigrants might end up going overboard, and that we're going to be apologizing to foreign-born legal Americans for our words and actions.

I highly doubt we'll directly apologize for our invasion of Iraq, but indirectly we may come upon a new age of non-interventionalism, in which America keeps its military out of conflicts unless in response to a direct and immediate threat or in support of UN action.

Well, on the bright side of pessimism, if there is no future, we won't have to worry about apologizing.
:-)
Remember, the optimist believes we are living in the best of times; the pessimist fears this is true.

You mean, what horrible atrocity will we commit next that will warrant a too little too late response?
