I accidently spilt some oil after frying vegetable fritters, and the nearest thing I could see was a kitchen towel which I used to wipe it up. I've washed the towel several times with lots of water and detergent, but the smell doesn't go. What should I do to get rid of it?

Hang the towel outside for 2 days in the sun...100% guarantee the smell will come out....Or you could have it dry cleaned, I doubt you want to take your dish towel to the cleaners.
If you have any smells in cloths the sun will take the smell out.
to let you know how well it works, I have a blanket I keep in the pen with my dog, it smells SO bad sometimes. I always hang it outside before washing it, after 2 days of it being outside it smells Soho fresh and all the gross smell is gone, but I do go ahead and wash it also....
The sun is also a natural bleach for whites also...

Try putting a little febreze fabric refresher in with the wash water. Works to take the smell of diesel out of clothes :o)

You need a degreaser... try soaking it in lemon juice or rubbing alcohol.
