Try Goo Gone, it works on almost anything even paint. Got rid of black paint on my cabinet. Good luck.

Oooh tar! That's a tough one: The only thing I can think of is a "degreaser" Usually used for vehicles: engine cleaning, tire cleaning.. A normal household degreaser won't do it I don't think..

I got some off my car upholstery using a heavy duty degreaser..

I've heard peanut butter, but sounds like the cure might be as bad as the tar. Try on small area first?
