I had 6 fish in my 10 gallon aquarium for 10 days, they were perfectly beautifully fine. On adivse of an unnamed sourse I was told serpae tetras would be fine with neons...this resulted in disaster and now I have no fish (had to take them back to unnamed source). So now, I have a full 10 gallon tank with no fish and I wanna know what I should put in it. I will be getting a few red zebra danios, but I wanna know what you think will look and go well with them. PS. since I had 6 fish doing great for 10 days in the aquarium, how many should I add now that there are none....6 or more or less?

This is just my little desk aquarium, and I like small compact tropical fish under 2 inches big. I am going to be setting up a 55 gallon after christmas

tetras can be territorial. I would try guppies, mollies, and the zebra danios are fine. ask your fish store which ones are the most peaceful. Start with maybe 2 of each kind (6 total), then you can add more if you think they're doing ok..if you think they're being too crowded, then you can take one or 2 out.
next step would be upgrading to a bigger tank, probably won't cost much more and you'l have more options...good luck.

How long was the setup running before you added the fish? While the tank is empty do a 20% water change, remember to dechlorinate the new water and maybe take a water sample to you local pet store to have it tested. You might want to a testing kit so that you can check your water quality every now and then. Do you have a heater in the tank? Its essential if you want to keep Freshwater tropical fish. I think you can't go wrong with the danios- they are very hardy and and get on well with most other fish. You can add some neon tetras, or some live bearers like mollies, guppies and platies. Remember the 1 inch of fish per gallon rule so that you don't overstock the system. Also feed as little as the fish will eat in a minute or two. Uneaten food will rot and poison the water. Do a 10% water change once a week and use the old water that you removed, to clean your filter in. Remember to use a dechlorinator in the new water that you add. and good luck. I do not know what u mean by disaster ?, if it means all the fish died, then the reason is not compatibility but nitrite poisoning (and incidentally there is no harm in keeping Tetras and Neons are OK together).
When u set up a tank you require the following:
1. Filter (preferably under gravel).
2. Aerator.
3. Good quality water.
A ten gallon tank can hold approximately 10 1" long fish, ie approx 1" per gallon.
Other reasons fish die:
1. Over feeding: remember only that much food that can be consumed in 2 minutes.
2. New tank Syndrome due to build up of nitrite.
3. Composition of water.
4. Mishandling by aquarist: ie put hands with soap or chemical traces, use of aerosol spray in the room etc.
Please go to the local pet shop and ask for advise.

2 inches of fish per gallon is the max. I would only start with 2 or 3 and after 10 days add a few more. You really have to watch for overcrowding in a small tank especially if the fish have no place to hide. If I'm not mistaken tetras tend to be territorial. Also, don't over feed it will only cause water problems and if you don't have a good filter you have to due frequent water changes.

Well a 10 gallon aquarium is really not that big. I had fancy goldfish in mine, and the max I could put in there were 2. It really just depends on what kind of fish you get, and how big they will get. You don't want to put alot of fish in such a small aquarium. If I were you I would do some more research online before you buy anymore fish. You also should go to your local pet store and get someone's advice that really knows the best what you should do. Good luck to you and your new fishies! :)

I would put albino corys with red zebra danios. But only like 5 danios with two corys to help prevent overstocking.
